  • If you were previously a People's United Online Banking user, you do not need to enroll as a new M&T Online Banking user
  • If you weren't already enrolled in People's United Online Banking, you can explore our M&T Banking Online services and enroll now
  • Once you have logged in and can see your accounts, you should only log in at mtb.com or on the M&T Mobile Banking app
  • Use M&T Online Banking on your desktop to view account history and update bill payments and transfers

Your first-time logging in?

  • If you are logging into M&T Online Banking for the first time, follow the instructions below
  • If you tried the first-time login link previously and could not finish logging in (for example, the page froze and you could not proceed), you should login directly at mtb.com

M&T Online Banking First-time login instructions

Before you begin, the steps below can only be completed one time. Once you have used the first-time login link below, you need to access M&T Online Banking directly at mtb.com.

Step 1: Go to https://m.mtb.com/FirstTimeLogin/PeoplesUnited to get started. You can only use this link one time per User ID. Using this link again may result in your online banking being locked out.


Step 2: Enter the same User ID and password you used to log in to your People’s United Online or Mobile Banking. (You may be prompted to update after logging in.)

If you've forgotten your password, follow these instructions to reset your passcode.


Step 3: Complete the necessary steps to access M&T Online Banking.


Step 4:  Once you have logged in and can see your accounts, you should only log in at M&T Online Banking or on the M&T Mobile Banking app.

You can now download the M&T Mobile Banking app from the App Store® for iPhone® or Google Play™ for Android™.

Bill Payments and Transfers

Scheduled transfers will need to be set-up after logging in to M&T Mobile or Online Banking, transfers that were previously established will not migrate from People’s United.

Certain types of Bill Pay payments and payees may not automatically migrate. When M&T Mobile and Online Banking become available on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, you will be able to log in and verify your payments and payees. M&T Bill Pay

Schedule one-time or recurring bill payments from your checking account.

M&T Online  and Mobile Bill Pay cannot be used to make payments: (i) to payees located outside the United States; (ii) to taxing authorities or other government entities; (iii) required under court order (e.g. child support); or (iv) in connection with any unlawful activity or purpose.

Help protect your account with timely updates about spending, security and other activities that impact your money.

M&T Bank Alerts are available for your M&T Card through M&T Online Banking. Suspicious activity alerts notify customers of certain potentially fraudulent activity on their M&T Card. Alerts are designed to be a helpful account management tool, but they do not identify all potential fraudulent activity and are not a substitute for security and fraud precautions including, but not limited to, verifying statements and being aware of your outstanding payments and available balance. For your protection, “suspicious activity” and “card PIN change” email alerts cannot be disabled. M&T Bank is not liable for any losses customers may incur due to an alert not being delivered. Your mobile carrier's text messaging and data charges may apply.

M&T Mobile Banking

You can use the M&T Mobile Banking App to manage your accounts on your mobile device.

M&T Flash Funds

Provides the option, for a fee, to make an eligible mobile deposit immediately available for withdrawals or purchases.

Deposits are subject to verification. Funds not available for immediate withdrawal. Deposit limits and other terms, conditions, fees and restrictions may apply. Business day is defined as Monday through Friday, except Federal Holidays. 
If selected, your mobile deposit will be immediately available. The fee for this service is 2% of the total check amount ($2 minimum charge). The fee will be deducted from your account following the completion of your deposit. If the deposit is made during our nightly processing, it will not be available to pay debit items that are processed for payment during that night’s processing. However, it would be immediately available for withdrawal.

Below are answers to some of your questions.

If you have not yet logged in to M&T Online Banking for the first time, and forgot your passcode:

Click the 'Don't have your IDs or passcode' link on the first time log in page https://m.mtb.com/FirstTimeLogin/PeoplesUnited

If you have already logged in to M&T Online Banking:

Select the “Help with Your Passcode” link on the M&T Online Banking login screen. You’ll then need to enter your User ID and Social Security Number or Tax Identification Number. 

Next you’ll need to verify your identity. You can either use your M&T Debit Card or ATM Card, your M&T Credit Card, your M&T Online Banking Security Questions, your M&T Mortgage Account or other verification method. It’s important to note: 

  • If you use your M&T Debit or ATM card, you will also need your PIN number
  • If you use your M&T Credit Card, you will also need your 3-digit Security Code
  • If you opt to answer your security questions, you will need to answer two correctly
  • If you use your M&T Mortgage Account, you will need your account number

Once you’ve provided all the necessary information, you can change your passcode.

If you’ve logged in to M&T Mobile and Online Banking previously and need to unlock your account or reset your security questions, you can do that online.

You can also call our automated telephone banking system at 1-800-414-9435

  • You will need your M&T Debit or ATM Card number and PIN, and your Social Security Number
  • When prompted select option 3 for “Assistance with M&T Online Banking or Mobile Banking”
  • Select option 2, “My Password" 
  • Enter your ATM or Debit Card number, PIN, and Social Security Number, followed by Option 1, "Unlock"

You can view your daily and 30-day limits in the payment screen by selecting the question mark next to "Limits". A text box will appear to show the remaining amount available for sending in the current 24-hour period. Send limits are set by M&T Bank.

You can choose to receive alerts via email, text or app notification. You will automatically be enrolled in two security alerts—Suspicious activity & PIN changed—which you will receive via email. You can also enroll in a range of optional alerts.

You can schedule an internal transfer from your M&T checking or savings account to make your M&T credit card and M&T loan payments.

Please note: When scheduling a bill payment using M&T Bill Pay, your instructions will define the Delivery Date of the payment. For electronic bill payments, funds will be withdrawn two business days prior to the Delivery Date. For paper bill payments, funds will be withdrawn four business days prior to the Delivery Date.

Keep your information out of the mail and easily accessible.

Storage for electronic statements if accessed via M&T Online Banking: up to 7 years for checking, savings, CDs, credit cards, installment loans, lines of credit, mortgages and home equity accounts. For most accounts, by enrolling in M&T's online statements and notices, you will no longer receive paper statements. You may, however, switch back to paper at any time.
