Tips regarding M&T Online Banking for Business

  • Once you have logged in and can see your accounts, you should only log in at mtb.com or on the M&T Mobile Banking for Business app
  • In some instances, People's United profiles were not migrated to M&T Online Banking for Business and you may need to enroll.   The administrator (an authorized owner/signor) of your business account can now enroll in M&T Online Banking for Business. Go to mtb.com/Enrollment and follow the  instructions.
  • If you weren't already enrolled in People's United Business Online Banking platform eTreasury+, you can explore our M&T Banking Online services and enroll now

Your first-time logging in?

  • If you are logging into M&T Online Banking for Business for the first time or have tried to log in for the first time and were unsucessful, follow the instructions below
  • If you have already successfully logged in and can see your accounts, you should use mtb.com/login or the M&T Mobile Banking for business app for all future visits.

M&T Online Banking for Business first-time login instructions

Try resetting your passcode if you haven't yet tried to log in or haven't been able to successfully access your accounts online.

Step 1: Go to mtb.com/reset to get started. 

  • If you have previously logged in successfully, please ignore the steps below and login as you normally would at mtb.com/login
  • Do not use the M&T Mobile Banking for Business app to log in for the first time

Step 2: Follow the prompts and enter the required information. You'll need:

  • Your People's United Business User ID
  • Your Tax Identification Number (TIN)
  • Your activated M&T Business Debit or Credit Card and PIN
  • If you haven’t activated your M&T Business Debit or Credit Card, follow the instructions on the sticker on the front of your card

You may need help resetting your passcode. You'll need to contact an M&T Representative at 1-800-790-9130 if:

  • You don’t know your People’s United User ID or
  • You’re People’s United User ID has a special character (e.g.,! $ # & * etc.) or 
  • You don't have or are unable to activate your M&T Business Debit or Credit Card

Step 3: Once you receive confirmation on the screen that you have successfully reset your passcode, click the green "Log in to Online Banking" button.


Step 4: Log in to M&T Online Banking for Business by entering your People's United User ID and newly created passcode.


Step 5: After you have logged in, you should be able to verify your account settings and enroll in electronic statements and notices.. 

  • Once you have successfully logged in and can see your accounts, you should log in directly at mtb.com/login or use the M&T Mobile Banking for Business app for all future visits
  • You can download the M&T Mobile Banking for Business app from the App Store® for iPhone® or Google Play™ for Android™

          

Bill Payments and Transfers

Scheduled transfers will need to be set-up after logging in to M&T Mobile or Online Banking for Business, transfers that were previously established did not migrate from People’s United.

Certain types of Bill Pay payments and payees may not have automatically migrated. We encourage you to log in and verify your payments and payees. You can learn more about how to schedule a bill payment and add a payee at M&T Bank here:

Establish your Quicken®/QuickBooks®  Desktop connection

Link your M&T accounts with your Intuit's Quicken® or QuickBooks® personal financial management software.

People’s United Bank offered customers the ability to import account activity from Online Banking into Quicken®/QuickBooks® through Direct Connect or WebConnect. 

At this time M&T does not offer file formats that support Web Connect (.QFX/.QBO), but you will have the ability to convert to M&T Direct Connect at no extra charge.

M&T Direct Connect provides:

  • The ability to link your accounts with your Quicken or QuickBooks Desktop software
  • The same interface and will allow for automatic updates (no manual updates) of financial data 
  • Access to Bill Pay and transfers

You should not experience any impact to your data through the transition.

M&T Direct Connect

Use M&T BizPay to manage and pay your business expenses using real-time payments, ACH and wire transfers.

M&T Bill Pay

Schedule one-time or recurring bill payments from your checking account.

M&T Online  and Mobile Bill Pay cannot be used to make payments: (i) to payees located outside the United States; (ii) to taxing authorities or other government entities; (iii) required under court order (e.g. child support); or (iv) in connection with any unlawful activity or purpose. 

M&T Alerts

Stay informed with various business credit card alerts at M&T.

M&T Bank Alerts are available for your M&T Card through M&T Online Banking. Suspicious activity alerts notify customers of certain potentially fraudulent activity on their M&T Card. Alerts are designed to be a helpful account management tool, but they do not identify all potential fraudulent activity and are not a substitute for security and fraud precautions including, but not limited to, verifying statements and being aware of your outstanding payments and available balance. For your protection, “suspicious activity” and “card PIN change” email alerts cannot be disabled. M&T Bank is not liable for any losses customers may incur due to an alert not being delivered. Your mobile carrier's text messaging and data charges may apply.

M&T Mobile Banking

You can use the M&T Mobile Banking App to manage your accounts on your mobile device.

M&T Flash Funds®

Provides the option, for a fee, to make an eligible mobile deposit immediately available for withdrawals or purchases.

Deposits are subject to verification. Funds not available for immediate withdrawal. Deposit limits and other terms, conditions, fees and restrictions may apply. Business day is defined as Monday through Friday, except Federal Holidays. 
If selected, your mobile deposit will be immediately available. The fee for this service is 2% of the total check amount ($2 minimum charge). The fee will be deducted from your account following the completion of your deposit. If the deposit is made during our nightly processing, it will not be available to pay debit items that are processed for payment during that night’s processing. However, it would be immediately available for withdrawal.

Below are answers to some of your questions.

If you have not yet logged in to M&T Online Banking for Business for the first time or have tried to log in but were unsuccessful:

If you have already logged in to M&T Online Banking for Business:

Go to mtb.com/reset

You'll be asked to enter your User ID and Social Security Number or Tax Identification Number. 

Next you’ll need to verify your identity. You can either use your M&T Debit Card or ATM Card, your M&T Credit Card, your M&T Online Banking Security Questions, your M&T Mortgage Account or other verification method. It’s important to note: 

  • If you use your M&T Debit or ATM card, you will also need your PIN number
  • If you use your M&T Credit Card, you will also need your 3-digit Security Code
  • If you opt to answer your security questions, you will need to answer two correctly
  • If you use your M&T Mortgage Account, you will need your account number

Once you’ve provided all the necessary information, you can change your passcode  and use your User ID and newly created passcode to log in to M&T Online Banking for Business. 

You can schedule an internal transfer from your M&T checking or savings accounts to make your M&T credit card and M&T loan payments.

Please note: When scheduling a bill payment using M&T Bill Pay, your instructions will define the Delivery Date of the payment. For electronic bill payments, funds will be withdrawn two business days prior to the Delivery Date. For paper bill payments, funds will be withdrawn four business days prior to the Delivery Date.

You will be able to complete a majority of your banking needs for your personal accounts, including paying bills, scheduling transfers and viewing transaction history. You will not be able to view your eStatements or manage Alerts for your personal account(s) through Mobile or Online Banking for Business. 

  • To view eStatements for your personal accounts, log in to Online Banking and go to View Statements and Notices from the Accounts menu
  • To manage Alerts for your personal accounts, log in to the M&T Mobile Banking App and tap “M&T Alerts” from the menu or log in to Online Banking and go to M&T Bank Alerts in the Services menu

Paper copies of historical electronic statements for current or closed accounts can be requested, for a fee, post-conversion, by calling us at 1-800-724-6070, visiting a branch, or sending us a secure message through M&T Online Banking for Business.

If you have an M&T Business Credit Card, you can choose to receive alerts via email, text or app notification on account activity. Business checking and savings accounts are not currently eligible for M&T Alerts. 

  • You can also call our automated telephone banking system.
    • You will need your Business Debit or ATM Card number, PIN, and first five numbers of your Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN).
    • Instructions: Call M&T Online Customer Service at 1-800-790-9130, and when prompted select option 1 “Help me log in”  followed by option 1, “My Password".  When prompted, enter your Business Debit or ATM Card, PIN, and first five of the TIN, followed by Option 1, "Unlock".

eStatements

Keep your business information out of the mail and easily accessible. 

Storage for electronic statements if accessed via M&T Online Banking: up to 7 years for checking, savings, CDs, credit cards, installment loans, lines of credit, mortgages and home equity accounts. For most accounts, by enrolling in M&T's online statements and notices, you will no longer receive paper statements. You may, however, switch back to paper at any time.
