Temporarily pausing personal Bank to Bank Transfers available through Online Banking.

We're evolving personal Bank to Bank Transfers to bring you a simplified experience, allowing you to easily move your money between financial institutions.

Bank to Bank Transfers, available through Online Banking, provides the convenience of moving money between your accounts held at M&T and your other financial institutions in the U.S. While we update the experience, a temporary pause in service will be necessary beginning on January 30, 2021. 
 
Any bank to bank transfers scheduled to be withdrawn after January 30, 2021 will be canceled. 
 
 

What you need to know.

Below is important information regarding current and scheduled transfers, as well as additional changes to the experience:

  • Any bank to bank transfers currently scheduled to be withdrawn after January 30, 2021 will need to be rescheduled in the new experience, once it becomes available
  • Previous bank to bank transfer activity will not be available to view in the new experience
  • You will need to add and verify external accounts in the new experience. They will not carry over from the current experience
  • Recurring transfers will need to be scheduled individually. This feature will become available at a later date
  • You will be able to transfer up to $2,000 per day and $5,000 per month (rolling thirty days)

Zelle

Transfer your funds between financial institutions with Zelle®. Enroll at M&T, as well as at your outside financial institution, using differing emails and/or mobile numbers

Must have a bank account in the U.S. to use Zelle. Transactions typically occur in minutes when the recipient's email address or U.S. mobile number is already enrolled with Zelle. Zelle and the Zelle related marks are wholly owned by Early Warning Services, LLC and are used herein under license. Other product and company names mentioned herein are the property of their respective owners.

Bill Pay

Use Bill Pay to make payments or send money directly from your account

M&T Online  and Mobile Bill Pay cannot be used to make payments: (i) to payees located outside the United States; (ii) to taxing authorities or other government entities; (iii) required under court order (e.g. child support); or (iv) in connection with any unlawful activity or purpose. 

Mobile Check Deposit

Deposit checks from your outside financial institution via the Mobile app to move your money to M&T

Deposits are subject to verification.  Funds from mobile check deposits will not be available for immediate withdrawal. Deposit limits and other terms, conditions, fees and restrictions may apply.  Your mobile carrier's text messaging and data charges may apply.

What’s coming with the updated experience.

  • An improved design – The Bank to Bank Transfers experience will receive a new look, making it simpler to transfer your money
  • Enhanced security – You’ll receive an additional verification code to enter before starting the transfer process
  • Coming later in 2021 – The ability to schedule recurring transfers will be added to the new experience

General: Bank to Bank Transfers Information

A bank to bank transfer is an electronic transfer of money between your M&T personal deposit account (checking, savings, or money market) and a verified non-M&T personal deposit account you have at another financial institution.

Your non-M&T deposit account used must be in the United States of America and be held solely for personal, family, or household purposes. Business accounts are not eligible. Transfers with external accounts held solely by third parties are not eligible and some personal accounts may not be eligible (examples: trust account, individual retirement account, or accounts that limit electronic fund transfers).

Bank to bank transfers can be made between your M&T personal deposit account(s) including, M&T Checking, Savings, or Money Market and your verified non-M&T personal deposit account(s).

Note: The Bank to Bank Transfers service is only available through Online Banking. 

Temporary Pause in Service: Bank to Bank Transfers Information

We’ll be temporarily pausing personal Bank to Bank Transfers as of January 30, 2021.

We’re currently working on the improvements. The date that access to the evolved service will be available has not yet been determined. This webpage will be updated as additional information becomes available.

Any previously scheduled transfers dated on or after January 31, 2021 will not be processed.

No. This pause does not affect any transfer instructions you provided to another financial institution or other third-party provider. They will continue as scheduled. The pause only affects transfers initiated or scheduled through M&T Online Banking using the Bank to Bank Transfer service.

No. This does not affect transfers between your M&T accounts (for example, from your M&T checking account to your M&T savings account) or M&T Bill Pay. Additionally, this does not impact your Direct Deposit, M&T mortgage payments, or other Automated Clearing House (ACH) transactions.

While the Bank to Bank Transfers service is paused, other money movement alternatives can be considered. Services can have different processing times, transaction limitations, or may be subject to fees.4

Some alternatives may include:

  • Zelle®. Transfer funds by enrolling at M&T, as well as at your outside financial institution, using differing emails and/or mobile numbers.
  • Bill Pay. Make payments or send money directly from your M&T account(s).
  • Mobile Check Deposit. Deposit checks from your outside financial institution using Mobile Check Deposit via the Mobile app.
