Supporting Our Military

Our military and veteran employees have demonstrated their responsibility and valuable contributions to the M&T team. We are proud to support our National Guard and Reserve employees and show that commitment through our annual renewal of the national Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve's Statement of Support Program by offering those with an obligation to serve additional time off.

​Military & Veteran Employee Benefits

M&T provides numerous job benefits to our military and veteran employees who need to take leave from their job to serve in the armed forces (including the National Guard and Reserve). M&T also provides reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities. Other benefits include:

Military leave pay (three standard work weeks [15 days] of full pay for annual training/active duty)

Military Differential Pay (continued compensation if Military pay is less than M&T pay after exhausting 15 days)

Healthcare benefits coverage

Life insurance (coverages will continue for 90 days from the first day of leave and are then suspended for the duration of the military leave)


Reemployment rights

40 paid volunteer hours

Veterans Employee Resource Group

M&T's Veterans Employee Resource Group is open to all employees and focuses on community outreach to support employees who are active or former military members.

The Veterans Employee Resource Group provides:

  • Informal mentoring of new military and veteran employees
  • Assistance with a smooth assimilation into M&T
  • Military and veteran candidate referrals to Human Resources for consideration
  • Assistance in mapping military specialty (MOS, AFSC, Rate) to M&T’s jobs
  • Veterans Day appreciation activities
  • Participation in community programs including the Yellow Ribbon Fund, Wounded Warrior Project and regional events

DOD SkillBridge Fellowship Program

M&T is proud to sponsor the Department of Defense (DoD) SkillBridge Corporate Fellowship Program, this program is designed to provide active service members, who are within their last 180 days of service, with civilian work experience, industry training, career development opportunities and mentorship that will help guide them in discovering their career, post-military.

MBA Veterans Program

M&T proudly partners with the MBA Veterans Network®, which is a professional networking and advocacy organization dedicated to connecting military veteran students with employers, like M&T, who value their elite academic credentials, military leadership abilities and limitless career potential. M&T is trying to find the best and diverse talent for our leadership. The executive associate program is a program within the bank specific to MBA's who are looking to get a wide breadth of experience in an accelerated leadership development program.


Above & Beyond Award

In May 2023, we were also honored to receive the Above & Beyond Award from the NYS ESGR Committee, which recognizes companies for providing their Guard and Reserve employees with additional support and benefits above and beyond what is legally required.
