Use your M&T card with confidence. We’re working continuously to keep you protected.

Our credit card fraud prevention measures start with a three-digit Security Code on the back of your card that helps to verify that you’re in possession of your card in the case of internet or phone transactions.
Visa Secure further confirms your identity when you’re shopping online at participating merchants.
Your card’s contactless and chip technologies encrypt your information into a unique code for more protection.
Get real-time fraud monitoring with M&T alerts. Receive security notifications by text and email when potentially suspicious activity occurs or your PIN changes.
M&T can temporarily freeze your card to prevent transactions if it is lost or misplaced. The Visa Zero Liability Policy also provides protection against unathorized use if it is stolen.

M&T Bank Alerts are available for your M&T Card through M&T Online Banking. Suspicious activity alerts notify customers of certain potentially fraudulent activity on their M&T Card. Alerts are designed to be a helpful account management tool, but they do not identify all potential fraudulent activity and are not a substitute for security and fraud precautions including, but not limited to, verifying statements and being aware of your outstanding payments and available balance. For your protection, “suspicious activity” and “card PIN change” email alerts cannot be disabled. M&T Bank is not liable for any losses customers may incur due to an alert not being delivered. Your mobile carrier's text messaging and data charges may apply.
The Visa Zero Liability Policy covers U.S.-issued cards only and does not apply to certain commercial card transactions, transactions not processed by Visa, or if you are grossly negligent or fraudulent in handling your card or card number.
