HOW DO I BECOME A CERTIFIED WOMAN-OWNED BUSINESS?

Discover advantages for women entrepreneurs

M&T Bank can help you simplify the women-owned business certification process.

Certification means opportunities

If your business is woman-owned and -operated, you could access a range of advantages. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) aims to award at least 5 percent of federal contracting dollars to certified women-owned small businesses (WOSB) each year. And you can become Women Business Enterprise (WBE) certified by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, which provides an extensive network of support, education programs, mentorship opportunities and increased visibility in corporate and government supply chains. M&T has the resources to make it easy for you to register with these key organizations.

WOSB certification requirements

For your business to access federal contracts reserved for women entrepreneurs, it must be WOSB registered and certified, meaning it qualifies as a small business according to the SBA standards, is at least 51 percent owned and controlled by women who are U.S. citizens and has a woman managing day-to-day operations.

WBE certification requirements

Businesses at least 51% owned, controlled, operated and managed by a woman or women can be WBE certified. Certification requires a company to undergo a thorough vetting process, including a site visit and business documentation. M&T can help you through this process.
